About Lake Memphremagog…….

Lake Memphremagog

It is a fresh water glacial lake located between Newport, Vermont, United States and Magog, Quebec, Canada. The lake is 26 miles long with 73% of the lake’s surface area in Quebec where it drains into the Magog River, however three-quaters of it’s watershed is in Vermont, the lake is much wider there. The total square miles of the lake is 687, with only 198 square miles located in Quebec and a whopping 489 square miles located inVermont.

The lake elevation is 682 feet (208 m) and its maximum recorded depth is 285 feet (87 m) located near the international divide. The  lake is the third deepest in Vermont containing 20 islands. Province Island, the largest, is divided by the international border, 93 % of the island lies in Canada and 7% in the United States. The name Memphremagog  means “where there is a big expanse of water”.

 About Memphre….

Memphre

Memphre is a reptile like lake monster that is siad to live in the murky Lake Memphremagog, often described as much like the Loch Ness Monster, while Memphre and lake monsters like Champ, in Lake Champlain are disputed by many scientists, sightings persist and Memphre was last seen in 2005. It has been desribed as a whale or sauroptergian like animal. Will me or one of the other swimmer scouts sight Memphre, well it’s said to be close to a full moon on Friday evening and clear skies, a good time as any.
